I can't tell you how often I wanted to write this in the blog but never got around to it. So here it is: nothing goes the way you think it will go when you have a boat. And everytime it doesn't go the way you wish (as in no problems) you have another opportunity to learn a bit about your boat. Except that initially you don't think of it as an opportunity.
DRAPES
How easy is it to put up drapes? I'm not talking about new drapes. No. I'm talking about the drapes that were on the boat. All we had to do was take them to the cleaners and put them back in the same track. How easy is that? Shall we count the ways it wasn't?
1. the drapery hooks in the salon were rusted and needed replacing. Ace didn't have them. Lowes didn't have them. Target didn't have them. Walmart had them but they ended up being a bit too big so we didn't finish putting up all the drapes on Wednesday. Our evening journey on Wednesday took us to Joanna's Fabrics who had them but they were a bit too small. We went with small and on Thursday we discovered they worked just fine.
2. the curtains shrunk at the cleaners. Yes, indeed. Two of the drapes that had bottom rungs needed adjustments. We moved the hardware on one and ripped out the pocket on the other. Aside from two additional holes in the beautiful interior solid teak wood, it worked out just fine.
3. the tie back hooks are compromised. Replacements are not to be found in the stores or on the net. We ended up using white cup hooks. Simple is good. Simple works.
The drapes look great.
WAXING
If your boat is painted, you don't have to wax. If your boat has a gelcoat, you need to wax. We are still under the impression our boat has a gelcoat. Although it is a bit unsettling that after wetsanding and using paste wax that the surface is not evenly shiny. I think we need to find out what is up. If the boat has been painted we may do it again soon.
MARINA
We have been docked in the inner basin since mid November on fixed docks. Depending on the tides, we are either stepping down, across or up to the boat. The local marina took over dock space next door. We asked and they agreed that we can move the boat over to the floating docks until we leave at the end of the month. It will be a wonderful opportunity to see if we like it there .
DATE, DATE
Six more days. We leave March 30th (I think). Are we ready?
