The thought that we would simply get on a flight in May and pick up the boat has been squashed. Have a look at our guest bedroom. Can you find the box with the spare propeller?
Next question: do we drive our own car or do we get a rental? A month ago, a one-way rental with Enterprise was about $250 for a SUV, so we booked. Then last week we changed our mind about the date of departure, and the price had gone down to $165.
New stuff this year: more charts, the Garmin Mobile App, spare prop, trip line setup, spurs for prop (we hope the marina will get this done), guide books for Maine coast, EPIRB, LPG Alarm, binoculars, chafe guards). And there is the usual restocking of our wine cellar, whole bean coffee and dog food supplies. Boat stuff is in there as well: oil, filters, oil pads, duct tape, etc. etc. etc.
Two years ago when we started the Great Loop, we left Naples on April lst. That was a good time to get on the water. All the stories of fellow boaters moving up the ICW these past few weeks has made us wish we were on the way too.
We are getting excited. We are ready for our 2013 adventure.
