- met with Adirondack, another Monk, who gave us their itinerary for the Down East Loop. As we are hoping to do this trip in 2015, it was a wonderful coincidence that we met up.
We received news that the Locks 11-14 were going to open up first thing on Thursday morning so we headed to Amsterdam on Wednesday to position ourselves. HaHa...
All day Thursday we waited in Amsterdam and finally the locks opened at 4:15, too late to make the complete passage past through Lock 14. Last Dance, Nido, and another joined us. Docktails!
Friday morning we left at 6:50am and had a long run to the free wall at Herkimer. We passed through the trouble spot at Lock 13 which did not have a lift but we still had to stop in the lock. Rainy day.
Saturday, Oct 5, we left Herkimer at 6:40 am and reached Winter Harbor, Brewerton, NY by 4 pm. The weather turned on Sunday and those crossing Lake Oneida that day were miserable.
We had a three day rental which we picked up Sunday evening and by Monday 10 am after speaking with the marina staff, we were on the road. Wednesday, Oct 9, we were home again.
It was an incredible trip, so much so, that we are considering keeping our boat in Maine when we are finished exploring. We will treat it as a floating summer cottage until that too will be but a happy memory.
